The 火花 of an idea can change the world, especially when expressed through the stage and screen. That’s what 火花 MNU艺术营 is all about: helping students find their voice and expertly expressing it through professional-level technology and hands-on workshops.
火花 is a week-long overnight camp for incoming high school freshman through graduating seniors. Starting with check-in on Monday afternoon, students will spend the week focused on both theatre and film skills with hands-on experience that partners them with professionals at MNU and the surrounding KC area. Students will enjoy master classes in auditioning, 代理, 即兴创作, 音乐剧, 导演, 生产, 编辑, 照明, 还有更多. The camp will culminate student experiences with a media showcase for their friends and family on Friday morning before heading home.
This camp will allow students to experience MNU campus life by enjoying on-campus activities, eating meals in the Cunningham Student Center cafeteria, and staying overnight in the dorms. Each attendee will receive a free camp t-shirt as well as room and meals as part of their tuition. We welcome students from all experience levels from anywhere in the country.

In addition to theatre and film, 火花 is thrilled to announce a new creative writing camp option with the One Year Adventure Novel.
In addition to his Student Emmy nomination, Aaron Bohn has earned numerous awards and honors for his podcasts, 电影, and scripts on 3 continents, including the Nashville Film Festival, the Austin Film Festival, the KOKA Russian Comedy Film Festival, and the Film Festival of Melbourne, 澳大利亚. A playfully imaginative comedy writer and director with master’s degrees in Storytelling and Screenwriting, he currently builds up the next generation of media storytellers as a university professor and entertains audiences with his stand-up and improv comedy across the country.
Heather Tinker currently serves as the Adjunct Director of 剧院 at MidAmerica Nazarene University. She has been teaching and 导演 at MNU since 2007. Heather has taught and directed at Benedictine College, Kansas City Young Audiences, Christian Youth 剧院, and The Culture House. 教学前, Heather travelled and performed with the Lillenas Dramatic Company for ten years as well as performing in Kansas City area community theatres. She has also done voice work and short 电影 recently appearing in several 电影 including the award winning 48 Hour Film Festival Fan Favorite, 现在骑, directed by a former student. Heather completed her Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Public Relations with a minor in 剧院 at MidAmerica Nazarene University in 1998 and a Master of Arts degree in 剧院 from the University of Kansas in 2012 where she received the Ambrose Saricks Family Scholarship for work in community or educational theatre. She recently appeared as Nan in Rabbit Hole with Smet Theatrics.
